FARO

Learning support and mentoring for children in the Cruz de Humilladero district, involving their families and especially their mothers.

Ongoing School year 2026/2027

FARO —Spanish for «lighthouse», and an acronym for Families, Accompaniment, Performance and Opportunities— is a Dosta initiative offering learning support and mentoring to children in the Cruz de Humilladero district of Málaga during the 2026/2027 school year. Its name sums up its purpose: involving families, with special attention to mothers; staying close; improving school performance and opening up opportunities.

It works along two lines:

  • Afternoon learning support at the Mercado García Grana: reading, writing, comprehension, speaking, arithmetic and study habits, adapted to each child.
  • Workshops at CEIP Giner de los Ríos with primary pupils, designed together with the teachers.

We presented it on 19 October with our president, Vanessa Jiménez, Jesús Cabrera from Fundación «la Caixa», the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, and the District 6 councillor, Teresa Porras.
